The separation of Church and State has blurred under the Bush administration.  Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder was concerned about Bush’s decision-making based on Bush’s frequent references to himself as a “God-fearing-man,” along with his insistence that he acts based on frequent conversations with God.

In his newly released memoirs, Schroeder reveals details of personal meetings with Bush:

The problem begins when political decisions seem to result from a conversation with God. We rightly criticize that in most Islamic states there is no clear separation between religion and the rule of law.
But we fail to recognize that in the US, the Christian fundamentalists and their interpretation of the Bible have similar tendencies. If both sides claim to be in possession of the only valid truth, then there is no room [to] maneuver.

Bush actually believes God speaks directly to him, and that his actions are in his name.  I wonder what God would say about an individual who behaved in such a manner… a 10 commandment’s reference comes to mind:

Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain...
